Redford, QC Premier of Alberta On behalf of the Government of Alberta, it is my pleasure to congratulate the Alberta-Northwest Territories Command of the Royal Canadian Legion on the publication of the fifth edition of the Military Service Recognition Book. Canada is a model of democracy, but the civil liberties we enjoy have not come without cost or sacrifice. For generations, men and women from Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and across Canada have left their homes and loved ones to defend those who cannot defend themselves and protect our freedom. They have served as soldiers, doctors, nurses and other personnel for the good of our country and the rest of the world. This book is a testament to the commitment and caring the Royal Canadian Legion shows our men and women in uniform. The stories put faces to otherwise unknown heroes and bring to light their extraordinary good deeds. THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ALBERTA-NORTHWEST TERRITORIES COMMAND WWW.abnwtlegion.com 11 This Military Service Recognition Book is the fifth in our series devoted to recognizing our veterans and all exmilitary service personnel throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories. These unique publications are dedicated to the many thousands who have served their country so well during times of war and peace. This book will help future generations better understand the sacrifices made during these times of great conflict, and to better understand the purpose and objects of The Royal Canadian Legion. A special Thank You goes to the staff at the Command office whose suggestions and hard work have helped shape the success of this project. A special Thank You also goes to all who took the time to compose and submit stories. There are too many to list, but you will recognize your contribution as your stories are told in this book. You know who you are, and we extend to you our sincerest thanks, as this book would not have been possible without your efforts. Some of the information presented may not be perfect as some of it was submitted in hand-written form and was not always legible, so we had to sometimes guess at what was written. There were also photos submitted over the web without accompanying stories, so I was sometimes left with partial stories and photos without stories. We are at a point where stories are being submitted at a slower pace than previous years. All stories that have been sent in to us should have been published. If you have sent in a story and have not seen it in one of our books, please contact me and I will do a search for it and rectify the situation. The professional expertise of Fenety Marketing again raised funds through the selling of advertising for this book and through a telephone solicitation process that has helped raise a tremendous amount of much needed financial aid to help support present and future Legion projects. These proceeds will be used to improve our services to veterans in the communities we serve throughout Alberta and the Northwest Territories. I would also like to thank the branches and their members for their tireless work they do on behalf of all Alberta/NWT veterans and their families. I hope that everyone has an opportunity to read these personal histories and stories and share some of the enjoyment and satisfaction we experienced in putting this book together.
