A message from the President May 21, 2020
Good day Comrades:
The Alberta Premier and CMOH confirmed that Alberta is lifting some health restrictions in Stage 1 of its relaunch strategy effective May 14, 2020.
This means that restaurants, bars, retail stores, museums, art galleries and hair salons can reopen with restrictions on capacity and social distancing.
However, the lifting of the same restrictions in Calgary and Brooks will not commence until the 25th of May. Thus, Branches located outside of Calgary or Brooks my reopen on Thursday, 14 May 2020 if they so desire.
The restrictions on capacity and social distancing are readily available at: https://www.alberta.ca/biz-connect.aspx
Specific restrictions for bar operations, which include most Legions, are available at: https://www.alberta.ca/assets/documents/covid-19-relaunch-guidance-restaurants.pdf
As I mentioned in Impact Statement #6, where uncertainty exists, please contact your local OHS Environmental Public Health Inspector.
Finally, I remind you that Branch Emergency Fund Grants are still available to your Branches even after you re-open.
These grants are targeted for Branches requiring assistance with their accounts payable, due to the loss of revenue, brought on by Branch closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding will not be provided for future expenses unless extenuating circumstances exist. Multiple applications are, however, permitted.
For Branches experiencing pre-pandemic financial difficulties, Branch Assistance Loans, up to $30,000, are available (see Section 26 of the Manual of Information https://abnwtlegion.com/MoI).
Other Federal and Provincial Government grants/loans are also available. Details can be found on the Dominion & Alberta-NWT Command websites under COVID-19 updates.
Stay safe & healthy.
Yours in Comradeship,
John Mahon, CD
Alberta-NWT Command President

Your Command Council shares those worries.
